The Expert Pedagogue

I found John Wooden who had been coaching since the 1930's remarkable. He was an amazing basketball coach who died at the age of 99 years.

His quotes:
"A life not lived for others is not a life"
"What you are as a person is far more important than what you are as an athlete"
This brings about the question of if you are a good athlete are you a good person and vise versa? I believe that having standards and certain personal morals as a person this will transend into the game you play and how you hold yourself on the field and as an athlete.

Expert pedagogues should hold standards in which they expect for their players however is it fair for coaches to set such high standards which for some may be unreachable?
Coaches should have standards that are achievable for their athletes and which are appropriate for the individuals involved.

Do all coaches need to charismatic? What is it about a coach or a teacher that makes athletes great? Do coaches and teaches need to have certain characteristics to succeed?
I believe they need to have courage and confidence and should be humble with these atributes. They need to be able to look for and recognise specific cues which novices may overlook.

PEDAGOGY:
The interaction between how one learns, how one teaches and what is being taught..
